Synopsis
Mappillai is a 1989 Indian Tamil-language masala film directed by Rajasekhar and produced by Geetha Arts.
The film stars Rajinikanth, Srividya, and Amala in the lead roles.
It is a remake of the 1989 Telugu film Attaku Yamudu Ammayiki Mogudu, with Chiranjeevi making a special appearance in this Tamil version.
The main storyline involves Arumugam, who gatecrashes a marriage to abduct the bride but later reveals he saved her from an arranged forced marriage. He also has a gold-medalist background and is shown to have a good heart.
His sister becomes involved with Rajarajeswari's son during this time.
The film was originally released on 28 October 1989 as part of Diwali celebrations and proved to be a significant success, running for over 200 days.
