Synopsis
Mankatha is an Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by Cloud Nine Movies.
The film stars Ajith Kumar, Arjun Sarja, Trisha Krishnan, Lakshmi Rai, Anjali, Andrea Jeremiah, Ashwin Kakumanu, Vaibhav Reddy, Premji Amaren, Mahat Raghavendra, Jayaprakash, and Subbu Panchu in an ensemble cast.
The story follows Vinayak, a corrupt ACP in Mumbai, who joins a gang of four who plans on a heist of cricket betting money. The film revolves around the battle between Vinayak and Prithvi, a tough cop tasked with ending the betting scandal in IPL cricket in Mumbai.
Principal photography commenced in October 2010 and was shot for the most part in Chennai, the Dharavi slum in Mumbai, and Bangkok, wrapping up by June 2011. The film was officially announced under the initial title Mangaatha, but underwent a change to Mankatha due to numerology reasons.
