The film stars Sivaji Ganesan, Sowcar Janaki, Ushanandini, Shubha and Sukumari in key roles.
It is a remake of the 1969 Telugu film Buddhimantudu, released on January 11, 1975.
The story revolves around Kumaraiya, a temple priest who encounters mystic experiences whenever he sees his younger brother Sundaram. However, Sundaram's life takes a turn when he falls in love and wants to marry Vijaya, the daughter of Dharmalingam's sister, causing trouble for Kumaraiya and the village head.
