Manithan (1987) is an Indian Tamil-language masala film directed by S. P. Muthuraman.
The story centers on Raja, who was wrongly imprisoned in his youth for hitting a teacher with a table weight after the teacher falsely accused him of theft due to being born on a No Moon Day (considered ominous).
Raja later joins the People Welfare Organisation and actively helps needy individuals, bringing enmity towards him because of his good deeds.
The film explores how Raja confronts this adversity, proving himself against his enemies and ultimately disproving the superstitions and prejudices surrounding him due to his birth date.
Manithan was released on 21 October 1987 and became a silver jubilee hit, starring Rajinikanth, Rupini, and Raghuvaran, among others.
