Mahamaya is a 1944 Indian Tamil-language historical drama film directed by T. R. Raghunath and starring P. U. Chinnappa and P. Kannamba.
The plot revolves around Mahamaya, the princess of Gandhara, and Vikram, the prince of a neighbouring kingdom, both pupils under the same guru at an ashram. Following an incident where Mahamaya garlands Vikram's sword without understanding its implications, they marry different partners after leaving the guru's service.
Later, Vikram encounters Mahamaya and reminds her of the ancient custom she unknowingly invoked through gifting his sword, claiming her as belonging to him. However, Mahamaya rejects this claim. In a dramatic turn, Vikram attempts to abduct her, but she escapes. Upon returning home, Mahamaya is rejected by her own husband.
Abandoned and desperate, Mahamaya ultimately kills her child in the film's climactic scene.
The film was released on 16 October 1944.
