Lavanya is a 1951 Indian Tamil-language film directed by G. R. Lakshmanan and starring T. E. Varadan alongside Suryaprabha.
The film tells the story of two impoverished girls who sustain themselves through street dancing, until divine beings intervene, transforming one girl into a handsome young man while the other is made to lose her way during bathing.
The transformed young man falls in love with a princess and they marry under unusual circumstances. A deity presents him with a ring that grants his wishes but comes with a strict condition: he must refrain from consummating the marriage.
Despite adhering to this rule, the young man eventually succumbs to his wife's charms, leading to a loss of everything he gained through the ring's magic. The film follows his journey as he fights back to regain what was lost and reunite with the girl who was transformed into a woman.
The film was released on 26 May 1951.
