Laila Majnu is a 1949 historical romance film directed by P. S. Ramakrishna Rao and produced under Bharani Pictures. The film stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Bhanumathi in the titular roles, with C. R. Subburaman composing the music.
The story revolves around the Sufi legend of Laila-Majnu, following the deep bond between Qais and Laila from infancy. Their parents become concerned, leading to conflict, and ultimately, Ameer Sarvaar forcibly takes his daughter away to Mecca. Heartbroken Qais follows her, eventually succumbing to madness while persistently throwing rocks at her palanquin.
The film was simultaneously released in Telugu and Tamil languages across South India and achieved significant success at the box office upon its release.
