Kungumam is a 1963 Indian Tamil-language film directed by Krishnan–Panju and written by Sakthi T. K. Krishnasamy. The film stars Sivaji Ganesan, Urvashi Sarada, S. S. Rajendran, C. R. Vijayakumari, and R. Muthuraman.
The movie was produced by K. Mohan and released on 2 August 1963. It tells the story of Sundaram and Gomathi, who are lovers but separated when Gomathi becomes an orphan living with her uncle's family after her parents' death. Sundaram goes to study abroad (the United States) and returns four years later to discover his mother Vedhavalli is a widow, told that his father Sambasivam committed suicide due to disgrace from failing to repay debts.
The film follows Sundaram as he becomes embroiled in a murder investigation involving broker Govindan and the suspect Punniyakodi, who is later revealed to be Gomathi's father. Sundaram helps Punniyakodi escape but is subsequently suspected by the police instead.
