Kudumbam (1954) is an Indian Tamil-language film directed by Jampana and starring Sri Ram and G. Varalakshmi.
The story revolves around Dharmalingam, a clerk at a pawn shop struggling financially with his meagre salary. His wife Seetha faces pressure from her father Veeraiah, who intends for their son Rajendran to marry his granddaughter Sarada. Following this revelation, Veeraiah takes Rajendran away.
Ramesh, the pampered son of a zamindar, cleverly steals a diamond necklace from the pawn shop. This implicates Dharmalingam, leading to his arrest and imprisonment. Seetha is forced to seek refuge with her own brother Ramanna, but she faces mistreatment at his hands and particularly from Ramanna's wife Kamatchi.
In response to their difficult circumstances, Seetha takes Rajendran away and they live a simple life in a hut. Years later, Rajendran grows up and joins college. Sarada also reaches maturity during this time.
