Kovilpatti Veeralakshmi is a 2003 Indian Tamil language film directed by K. Rajeshwar.
The film tells the story of a woman, Veeralakshmi, who battles against untouchability in her village. She and her fellow Dalits face unbearable torture due to casteism from a brutal police force.
Veeralakshmi's situation is exacerbated by the feudal-like behavior of the inspector of police, who beats up poor men and rapes women, with his officers emulating his actions. Pushed to revolt, Veeralakshmi rises against her subjugation.
The film features Simran in the lead role, dubbed in her own voice for the first time, alongside some dialogues dubbed by Deepa Venkat. The movie marks the last collaboration of music composer Adithyan, who went on to host a show on Jaya TV.
