The story begins with the cancellation of a wedding, where the bride Shanthi refuses to marry her groom Kumar due to his demands for a large dowry. Shanthi challenges Kumar to find a better groom who will not ask for any dowry.
Raja, a villager searching for work, befriends Shanthi's daughter Vaithi and eventually falls in love with Shanthi after saving her life from an old man struck by lightning.
The film was released on 18 February 1994.
