Kathavarayan is a 1958 Indian Tamil-language Hindu mythological film directed by T. R. Ramanna and written by Thuraiyur K. Murthy.
The movie stars Sivaji Ganesan as Kathavarayan, the mortal form of Shakti's son Veerabahu, who becomes the prince of the mountains after being adopted by tribal people.
Kathavarayan gains the ability to transform into any form for divine protection during peril and falls in love with Princess Aryamala (Savitri), whose tragic destiny was foreseen at her rebirth.
The King disapproves of their relationship, but Shakti blesses Kathavarayan before his arrest by the royal court. The narrative culminates when the king orders his impalement, but Shiva intervenes to save him.
The film was released on 7 November 1958 and is a remake of the 1941 film Aryamala.
