Karuththamma is a 1994 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by Bharathiraja and produced from a story by M. Rathnakumar.
The film stars Raja, Rajashree, and Maheswari, with Saranya, Periyar Dasan, Ponvannan, Vadivukkarasi, Vaani, Vadivelu, and Janagaraj in supporting roles.
Set in rural villages in Tamil Nadu, the movie explores female infanticide and the hatred surrounding its victims. The title character, Karuththamma, is against this practice.
The music was scored by A. R. Rahman, with cinematography by B. Kannan and editing by K. Pazhanivel.
Released on 3 November 1994, Karuththamma became a commercial success and won several awards, including three National Film Awards and the Filmfare Award for Best Film – Tamil.
