Synopsis
Karaikkal Ammaiyar is a 1943 Tamil language film directed by C. V. Raman.
The film stars V. A. Chellappa, P. Saraswathi, T. S. Jeya, and Kalyani in this drama film based on the life of a Hindu woman saint of the same name.
The story revolves around Karaikkal Ammaiyar, born Punithavathi, who was a devotee of Lord Shiva from childhood. She married a wealthy merchant but after an incident, he left her for another woman. Ammaiyar prayed to Lord Shiva to give her a different form so that no man would seek her with passion. He granted her wish and she became a form of fiery Kali.
Lord Shiva then asked her to come to his abode, Mt. Kailash, where the film ends.
