
Kalamegam is a 1940 Tamil-language film directed by Ellis R. Dungan, starring T. N. Rajarathnam Pillai as the lead nadaswaram player in the title role of poet Kalamegam.
The screenplay was written by Bharathidasan for the second time and features his only acting appearance in a film during his lifetime. The supporting cast includes R. S. Ramu, Natarajan, M. A. Pichai Pandurar, T. Thangaiah, A. Sivakozhundhu, C. G. Nammazhvar Reddiar, and Sundarabhashyam Naidu.
The film is based on the life of 15th century Tamil poet Kaalamegam. Dungan was hired to direct a film about Kalamega Pulavar's life, with Pillai cast in the title role due to his expertise as a nadaswaram player. Scenes featuring Pillai playing the Nadaswaram were added to satisfy his fans.
The script was written by rationalist poet Puduvai Bharathidasan, who also made his acting debut in this film. Dharmapuri S. Murugesan acted as one of the partners of Mohini Pictures in the production.
