Kaali is an Indian action film released on 3 July 1980, directed by I. V. Sasi and produced by Hem-Nag. The film stars Rajinikanth in the Tamil version alongside Seema, Fatafat Jayalaxmi, and Shubha, while Chiranjeevi takes Vijayakumar's place in the Telugu version.
The movie follows Kaali as he searches for Raja Rao, a rich businessman responsible for his family members' deaths after being released from jail. The film features music composed by Ilaiyaraaja, including Vairamuthu's first written song "Kali Bhadrakali".
Production of the film was marred by a fire accident that resulted in fatalities involving stuntmen and horses.
The film was released simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu languages but ran for less than 50 days in Chennai, considered a box office failure in both versions.
