Ilaignan is a 2011 Indian Tamil-language historical action film directed by Suresh Krissna and written by Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi.
The film is based on the 1906 Russian novel, The Mother, by Maxim Gorky. It tells the story of Karky (Pa. Vijay), the son of Arokkyasami (Nassar), who seeks to win freedom for his people from shipbuilding owner Rajanayagam (Suman) and his wife Sena (Namitha).
Meera (Meera Jasmine) helps Karky in his quest, while his mother Valliammai (Khushbu) is initially reluctant to wage war against evil. Rajanayagam is portrayed as a cruel, cunning, and big-hearted fraud who plays a game of deception with Karky.
The film follows the conflict between Karky's desire for freedom and Rajanayagam's cruelty. With Meera's help, Karky starts a war against Rajanayagam, who crosses all levels of cruelty.
