
Hey Ram is an 2000 Indian epic historical fiction film written, directed, and produced by Kamal Haasan, starring him in the title role with Shah Rukh Khan in a pivotal role.
The film's soundtrack and score were composed by Ilaiyaraaja. It is an alternate history film that depicts India's Partition, Direct Action Day and the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi by Nathuram Godse.
The story follows Saketh Ram, a young man who becomes embroiled in Hindu extremism after his wife's brutal murder during the 1946 riots in Calcutta. He is eventually manipulated into committing himself to assassinating Gandhi, but his loyalties are tested when he finds himself caught in the crossfire between Hindus and Muslims.

It was screened at the International Film Festival of India and selected by the Film Federation of India as its submission to the Oscars in 2000, although it was not nominated. The film has garnered three National Film Awards.
