The movie tells the story of Karunakaran, a local don who unlawfully takes possession of villagers' land to construct his liquor factory. A new police officer seeks assistance from Periyasamy in stopping Karunakaran's oppressive actions and reclaiming the stolen land.
Periyasamy is an orphan who was raised by his only sister Lakshmi, and he has a personal vendetta against Karunakaran, who had previously threatened him and his loved ones.
The film completed a 100-day run at the box-office and was remade in several other languages, including Telugu as Muddula Mavayya, Hindi as Aaj Ka Arjun, Bengali as Pabitra Papi, and Kannada as Ravimama.
