Dowry Kalyanam is a 1983 Indian Tamil-language comedy drama film directed by Visu and produced by S. Suseela.
The story revolves around best friends Ganesan and Ethiraj, played by Visu and Vijayakanth respectively. Ethiraj, who lost his wife early on, is a widower living with his daughter and struggles with alcoholism. He financially supports his friend Ganesan, whose meager clerk's salary forces him to borrow money frequently from the more affluent Ethiraj.
The central conflict arises when an arranged marriage between Ganesan (who has Uma as wife and Gowri as sister) and his friend's daughter is proposed. This prompts Ethiraj to help with her dowry, but it also leads Ganesan to attempt collecting a significant portion of the required dowry on his own.
The film stars Visu, Vijayakanth, Srividya, S. V. Sekhar and Viji in lead roles. The musical score was composed by M. S. Viswanathan.
