Dhavani Kanavugal is a 1984 Indian Tamil-language drama film written, directed, and produced by K. Bhagyaraj.
The story revolves around Subramaniam 'Subramani', an economics graduate from Coimbatore who struggles financially despite his education. He works various menial jobs to support himself and his five younger sisters in their village.
Set against the backdrop of a cycle shop owned by retired army officer Captain Chidambaram, Subramani rents part of the premises. Captain Chidambaram acts as a kind figure towards Subramani's family. The eldest sister finds employment part-time at this very cycle shop.
A poignant plot point involves their mother arranging her daughter's marriage to a mute groom due to the absence of dowry demands, but intervention by Captain Chidambaram advises against such an unsuitable union and encourages waiting for a better match.
The film stars K. Bhagyaraj, Radhika, and Sivaji Ganesan, and was released on 14 September 1984. It was partially reshot in Telugu as Ammaayiluu... Preminchandi!
