Dharmam is a 1986 Indian Tamil-language film directed by R. Thyagarajan.
The movie stars Sathyaraj in the lead role as Karthik, who is sentenced to death after being convicted for killing Valli's father, Rajappa. While awaiting his final hearing, Karthik meticulously plans an escape from prison.
Shortly before his sentencing, three new prisoners arrive and are won over by Karthik's elaborate plan. After he receives the death sentence, these cellmates abandon him to use his method for their own escape.
The escaped trio then kidnaps Collector Bhanu as a hostage while Superintendent of Police Saravanan orchestrates her rescue, which requires delaying Karthik's execution.
Dharmam was released on 4 July 1986 and stars Sathyaraj, Saritha, and Sudha Chandran.
