Devadas is a 1953 Indian bilingual romantic drama film directed by Vedantam Raghavaiah (Telugu version) or Vedantam Raghavayya (Tamil version, titled Devadas). The story centers on childhood sweethearts Devadasu and Parvati/Parvathi, who are in love since childhood. A major conflict arises when Devadas' father rejects their marriage proposal made by Parvati's family.
The narrative explores Devadasu's subsequent life as a drunkard and the tragic circumstances surrounding his failed romance with Parvati, who is forced to marry another man. The film features C. R. Subbaraman's music score edited by P. V. Narayanan, with lead roles played by Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Savitri (Telugu version) or Lalitha (Tamil version).
The film was produced by D. L. Narayana for Vinodha Pictures, with Chakrapani writing the script based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel of the same name. C. R. Subbaraman composed the film's music, and B. S. Ranga provided the cinematography.
