Dayalan is a 1941 Indian Tamil-language film produced by T. R. Sundaram and directed by A. Mithra Das.
The story revolves around King Arputhavarman, who has two sons: Dayalan (from his deceased first wife) and Bharathan (from his second wife), along with a young girl named Padmavathi whom he raised in the palace.
Dayalan falls in love with Padmavathi. Meanwhile, Dunmathi, a servant of the king, poisons the King's mind against Dayalan and becomes the Prime Minister. Dunmathi's son Prathapan conspires with him to seize power.
Dunmathi convinces the King that Dayalan is plotting his death and usurping the throne. Consequently, Dayalan is sentenced to execution but escapes prison with friends' help.
After navigating various obstacles, Dayalan exposes Dunmathi's conspiracy alongside Prathapan's treachery. The king acknowledges his mistake, leading to the deaths of Dunmathi and Prathapan.
In the end, Dayalan marries Padmavathi and is crowned King himself.
The film stars P. U. Chinnappa as Dayalan, T. R. Mahalingam (likely portraying either the father or Bharathan), and K. V. Jayagowri as Padmavathi.
