Chembaruthi is a 1992 Indian Tamil-language teen romantic drama film written and directed by R. K. Selvamani and produced by Kovaithambi.
The film stars Prashanth as Raja, the grandson of a wealthy businesswoman living in London, who visits India to see his grandmother. Roja makes her Tamil debut playing Chembaruthi, the sister of a poor fisherman named Pandi.
Chembaruthi was partially re-shot in Telugu and released under the name "Chamanti". The music was composed by Ilaiyaraaja, edited by V. Udhayashankar, and filmed by Ravi Yadav.
The central plot revolves around their chance encounter during Raja's birthday party in the village where his grandmother resides, leading to a developing romance as they meet frequently.
The film premiered on 17 April 1992 and became a major box office success in its Tamil release. It was remade into the Hindi film "Aao Pyaar Karen" released in 1994.
