Chandrodhayam (Moonrise) is a 1966 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy film directed by K. Shankar.
The story revolves around Devi, an innocent heiress who runs away from her home and creates a scandal the day before her engagement to avoid an arranged marriage. She finds herself in a precarious situation but is saved by Chandran, a reporter for the newspaper Dinakkavartchi.
Chandran decides to help Devi get justice after she shares her story with him, which includes her past trauma of being raped. The film also explores conflict between Chandran and the unscrupulous editor Duriothanan over sensational versus genuine news reporting.
The film stars M. G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa in leading roles, alongside M. N. Nambiar and Nagesh in supporting roles. It was inspired by the 1934 American film It Happened One Night and released on May 27, 1966.
