Bilhana is a 1948 Indian Tamil-language historical drama film directed by K. V. Srinivasan and produced by T. K. Shanmugam under the banner of TKS Brothers.
The story revolves around a king who hires the poet Bilhana to educate his daughter, Yamini. To prevent any romantic feelings from developing between them, the king devises a scheme: he tells Yamini that Bilhana is blind and instructs her staff to keep him behind a curtain during their interactions. He also lies to Bilhana about Yamini's appearance.
During a lesson under the full moon, Bilhana recites a poem inspired by its beauty. This amuses Yamini, who wonders how a supposedly blind man can compose such verses. Suspecting deceit, she pulls down the curtain and discovers Bilhana is not blind but physically attractive and youthful. Simultaneously, Bilhana learns that Yamini is beautiful and unharmed.
Seeing each other's true nature breaks down the king's deception. The two fall in love despite their initial misunderstandings about one another's appearance. Their decision to marry creates conflict with the king who had initially intended for them merely to be teacher and student.
The film stars K. R. Ramasamy and A. R. Sakunthala, and was released on 1 November 1948 by Mubarak Pictures.
