Bharathi Kannamma is a 1997 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film written and directed by Cheran in his directorial debut.
The film stars R. Parthiban and Meena, and was released on January 15, 1997. It emerged as a success, winning three Filmfare Awards South, including Best Film – Tamil.
The story follows the protagonist, a landlord who makes a social statement by doing his own chores to prove that all castes are equal. In a flashback, he is revealed to be Bharathi, a lower caste worker for a rich landlord, Vellaisamy Thevar, who falls in love with his daughter Kanamma after saving her at a local fair.
The film was remade in Kannada as Usire (2001).
