Beeshma Prathikgna is an Indian Hindu mythological film released in 1936, directed by P. Y. Altekar and produced by Salem Films.
The film stars M. S. Damodara Rao as Shanthanu Maharaja, Kanthimathi Bai as Ganga, and T. S. Jaya as Sathyavathi, with the latter playing a role in the story of Bhishma's vow to remain unmarried.
Based on the character Bhishma from the Mahabharata epic, the plot revolves around Shanthanu Maharaja and his mother Ganga, who drowns their seven daughters at birth following her wish. Their eighth child, Bhishma, survives and vows to remain unmarried throughout his life.
Shooting took place at the East India Film Studios in Calcutta, marking the film as the first Tamil movie based on the character of Bhishma from the Indian epic Mahabharata.
