Bala Nagamma is a 1981 Tamil-Telugu bilingual film directed by K. Shankar.
The story revolves around Queen Punitha, who prays to the goddess Nagadevi for a child and faces a curse: choosing a son means losing her husband, while choosing a daughter risks her own life. She selects the girl Bala Nagamma, dying soon after in fulfillment of the prophecy.
Heartbroken by his wife's death, the king remarries but is persuaded by his new queen Mohana to eliminate Bala Nagamma for power. Unable to directly kill her, he abandons her in a forest. There, Nagadevi takes up guardianship of the infant Bala Nagamma.
The film stars Sarath Babu and Sridevi and is a remake of the 1942 Telugu film of the same name. The Tamil version was released on 26 October 1981, and the Telugu version on 30 April 1982.
