Babu is a 1971 Indian Tamil-language film directed by A. C. Tirulokchandar.
The movie stars Sivaji Ganesan, Vijayasri (also known as Nirmala), and Sowcar Janaki in lead roles.
The plot follows Babu, an orphan who becomes a rickshaw puller after losing the person he loved deeply. He encounters Sankar, who takes him in despite his poverty, offering new clothes and allowing his daughter Ammu to share food with Babu regardless of their differing social statuses.
When Sankar passes away, Babu dedicates himself to fulfilling his landlord's dream by ensuring Ammu becomes a graduate.
The film is a remake of the Malayalam film Odayil Ninnu, which itself was based on P. Kesavadev's novel of the same name.
Ganesan played a rickshaw puller who adopts his landlord's daughter. The film became a blockbuster at the box office, running for over 100 days in theatres.
