Released on 30 July 2004, Azhagiya Theeye was a commercial success. The story revolves around Chandran, who is approached by Nandhini to break her proposed marriage with a software engineer from the United States.
The twist in the story is that Aravind does not walk away and instead stays back to see Nandhini, leading to an unexpected turn of events. The film's name is inspired by the song of the same name from Minnale (2001).
