Avargal is a 1977 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film directed by K. Balachander.
The film stars Sujatha and Kamal Haasan as the lead actors, with Rajinikanth in a supporting role. The plot revolves around Anu, a dancer who falls in love with Bharani, a flautist. After her father's transfer to Bombay creates distance, she becomes entangled in a triangular relationship when Ramanathan, a colleague supporting her during her father's illness, proposes marriage.
As the story unfolds, Anu must navigate her complicated relationships and confront the challenges of her past. The film explores themes of love, heartbreak, and redemption.
Avargal was released on 25 February 1977 and features a talented cast, including Ravikumar. Despite being a commercial failure, the film won Sujatha the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Tamil, and qualified for the Indian Panorama.
