Synopsis
Aryamala is a 1941 Indian Tamil-language film that tells the story of Kathavarayan, Lord Shiva's third son, who falls in love with Ilankanni, a celestial girl reborn as princess Aryamala after drowning herself. Kathavarayan transforms into various creatures to gain her affection, but ultimately ties a knot on Aryamala while she sleeps, causing shock. The film stars P. U. Chinnappa, M. S. Sarojini, M. R. Santhanalakshmi, and T. S. Balaiah.
The movie is based on a folk myth and was a major box office success, establishing P. U. Chinnappa as a box office hero. The same story was re-produced under the title Kathavarayan in 1958.
