
Aravaan is a 2012 Indian Tamil language epic historical film directed by Vasanthabalan, based on S. Venkatesan's novel Kaaval Kottam.
The film stars Aadhi, Dhansika, Archana Kavi, and Pasupathy, with Kabir Bedi in a prominent role and Bharath making a cameo appearance. Karthik makes his debut as the film's music director.
Set in 18th century India, Aravaan tells the story of a group of people who steal from the wealthy to provide food and shelter for their tribe. The leader of the gang, Komboodhi (Pasupathy), is known for always succeeding in his missions and keeping his villagers meagerly fed.
The film follows the story of Varupuli (Aathi), also known as Chinna, who is chosen by the King to be offered to God as punishment for the death of a youth from a neighbouring village. The film's climax reveals what happens when Chinna is taken to be offered to God.
