Annan Oru Koyil (The Elder Brother is a Temple) is a 1977 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by K. Vijayan and written by Vietnam Veedu Sundaram.
The film stars Sivaji Ganesan, Sujatha, Suruli Rajan, and Jai Ganesh in key roles.
The story revolves around Dr. Ramesh, who dotes on his sister Lakshmi, who deeply worships him. When her friend Basker attempts to rape her, she kills him in self-defense but subsequently falls into a catatonic state. To protect his sister from legal consequences, Dr. Ramesh takes responsibility for the crime and goes on the run.
His escape is aided by Janaki, his childhood sweetheart, while his colleague Dr. Ananth focuses on helping Lakshmi recover her mental health. The narrative explores whether Lakshmi can regain her composure and if brother and sister can reunite amidst these circumstances.
The film was a remake of the Kannada film Devara Kannu and became a blockbuster at the box-office, running for over 100 days all over Tamil Nadu.
