Anarkali is a 1955 Indian historical romance film produced and directed by Vedantam Raghavayya in Telugu. The film stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao as Mughal Prince Salim (later Jahangir) and Anjali Devi.
The plot revolves around Nadira, a Persian woman who migrates to Agra, capturing the attention of Prince Salim, leading them to fall in love. Emperor Akbar later discovers their relationship and refuses his acceptance, bestowing upon her the title "Anarkali" meaning 'Pomegranate Blossom' after being impressed by her singing.
The film was produced by P. Adinarayana Rao with music composed by him. It was released on April 28, 1955, and achieved significant commercial success, running for over 100 days across numerous theatres.
