Alai Osai is a 1985 Indian Tamil-language film directed by Sirumugai Ravi in his directorial debut. The movie stars Vijayakanth and Nalini.
The soundtrack was composed by Ilaiyaraaja, with the song "Poradada" becoming particularly notable as an anthem for Dalits. This song has been reused in two later Tamil films directed by Mari Selvaraj: Pariyerum Perumal (2018) and Karnan (2021).
Released on 14 January 1985, Alai Osai received an 'A' certificate from the censor board, indicating it was restricted to adults but released without cuts. The film marked Sirumugai Ravi's directorial debut after he had previously worked as an assistant director under R. Sundarrajan.
The movie follows the story of a man who goes to the beach and listens to the sound of waves for three hours, according to critic Jayamanmadhan, who noted that many performances were wasted across 16 reels but praised Ilaiyaraaja's musically suitable tunes.
