Adhithan Kanavu is a 1948 Indian Tamil-language film directed and produced by T. R. Sundaram.
The movie stars T. R. Mahalingam and Anjali Devi, and follows the story of two cousins who serve as commanders in the army of a kingdom.
They make an agreement that if one has a son and the other a daughter, their children should marry each other. However, disagreements cause them to separate, with one cousin leaving the country.
Both eventually marry and have children: one a boy, the other a girl. These cousins grow up apart until they are brought together by heavenly beings (Gandharvas) for a Gandharva marriage during the night.
The following morning, the man searches for his new bride, while the woman becomes pregnant from this union and faces significant harassment as a result.
Adhithan Kanavu was released on 11 December 1948.
