Synopsis
Manimekalai is a 1940 Indian Tamil-language film directed and photographed by Bomman Irani. It was produced under T. K. Productions by T. Krishnachand.
The movie stars K. B. Sundarambal as the title character, Manimekalai, alongside Kothamangalam Seenu as Udayakumaran, N. S. Krishnan as a sari vendor, A. Sundaram as Madavi, and T. A. Mathuram as Kunchalam.
Manimekalai is the first feature film adaptation of Chithalai Chathanar's epic poem Manimekalai, one of the Five Great Epics of Tamil literature. The screenplay was written by A. M. Somarajulu and S. Ramaiah. It had a final length of 17,500 feet (5,300 m).
Released on November 23, 1940, the film unfortunately failed commercially upon its release.
