Synopsis
Kanavan (1968) is an Indian Tamil-language film directed by P. Neelakantan and starring M. G. Ramachandran alongside Jayalalithaa.
The drama follows Vellaiya, who is falsely accused of murdering a cashier named Ganapathy. Meanwhile, Rani, the wealthy daughter of Chidambara Pillai, attends her father's invitation but harbors disdain for marriage and feels humiliated by Manogar, likely her fiancé or chaperon.
When Chidambara Pillai suffers a heart attack following an insult from Manogar regarding Rani's behavior, he dies and dictates his will to Manager Mani. The will stipulates that Rani must marry to inherit his fortune, leading her to choose Vellaiya despite his death row sentence for murder.
Initially reluctant, Vellaiya agrees to the marriage. However, just before the execution or due to a final twist, he is unexpectedly acquitted of the cashier's murder charge. This clears his name, allowing him and Rani to begin their married life together.
The film was released on 15 August 1968 and stars M. G. Ramachandran, Jayalalithaa, C. R. Vijayakumari, S. A. Ashokan, and Cho.
