About Arunagirinathar

Arunagirinathar is a medieval Tamil poet and Hindu saint who composed Thiruppugazh which is believed to consist of 16,000 songs praising of Lord Murugan. He also wrote many other notable works like Thiruvaguppu, Kandar Alankaram, Kandar Anubhuti, Kandar Andhadi, Vel Viruttam, Mayil Viruttam and Seval Viruttam. There were two tamil films made in 1937 which portrayed the life of Arunagirinathar. One of them was directed by Raja Yagnik and starred T.M.K. Manikka Bagavathar. The other film was titled Bhaktha Arunagiri and was directed by S.D.S. Yogi. It was common in the early years of Tamil Cinema to have two movies releasing in the same year with the same story as it was predominately Mythological subjects that were made into movies during this period and most of those stories.
