Synopsis

Andha Naal (That Day) is a 1954 Indian Tamil-language mystery-thriller film directed by S. Balachander for AVM Productions.

The film stars Sivaji Ganesan as Rajan, a radio engineer murdered on the night after the Japanese bombing of Madras. The story follows the investigation into Rajan's murder, with each suspect providing a different account of events.

Set against the backdrop of World War II, Andha Naal centers on the complex web of lies and alibis presented by Rajan's wife Usha (Pandari Bai), neighbor Chinnaiya Pillai (P.D. Sambandam), brother Pattabi (T.K. Balachandran), sister-in-law Hema (Menaka), and mistress Ambujam (K. Sooryakala).

The film is notable for being the first Tamil film noir and the first to completely lack song, dance, or stunt sequences.
